Suggested mallets for the Middle School band

About this list:

Mallets best suited for the middle school/junior high band have been selected for smaller hands with less developed muscles, and therefore are slightly smaller and easier to control while still producing excellent sound quality and offering the opportunity for high-level musical expression in the ensemble setting. In addition, durability and flexibility are a key concern in the younger band setting.

  • The “Required” list covers the essential sounds for any younger ensemble.

  • The “Nice to Have” list expands on the initial sound palette to offer a wider variety of options for more specialized repertoire.

  • The “Student supplies” list covers the basics that every responsible young percussionist should have on a daily basis.
